Rockton is a village in northern Winnebago County, IL. It is located in the Rock River Valley with a population of 7,685 according to the 2010 census.
Rockton was originally inhabited by Native American tribes. Stephen Mack, Jr was the first settler in the Rockton area and married Hononegah, a respected Native American. Many local landmarks are named for Mack and/or Hononegah.
The area has many custom home subdivisions and is convenient to the Rockford metro area as well as Wisconsin and I90/I39. Many residents commute to the Chicago suburbs as the cost of living and property taxes are are very affordable.
The area boasts two of the best school districts in the state, Rockton and Hononegah Community High School districts.
Notable features are the Rock River, affordable housing, abundant health care, manufacturing, recreational areas, apple orchards, tree farms, slow-paced living, and lots of great people.
